Thailand Travel Log, Dec. 2002

  Turn left at the cow.

   Monday, December 16, 2002
We arrived in Mumbai on Sunday night. We are staying at the Hotel Karl Residency in Andheri, Mumbai. It's right next to Monika's masi's house, so it's very convenient.

I woke up early to run today. If you have ever seen the air, roads and traffic in this part of town you would think I was crazy to go running, but I got accustomed to exercising again after our stay in Phimai, so I couldn't resist. It's difficult to desrcibe the streets in Mumbai. Think warzone. Rubble, waste both humand and animal, lines the streets. If the auto-rickshaws don't run you over, one of the commuter buses will. The area that we are staying Either because of the climate or the poor construction techniques, most of the buildings look like they are rotting away. From what I gather the analogy of condo-associations run the buildings and don't want to spend a lot of money on maintainence.

Although most of the neighborhood is beginning to look familar, I was a bit worried about getting lost and being late for our ride into the city at 9am. On my way back I happened to see a familiar cow, so I turned left and got right back to my hotel.
